List your place

There is no fee, and no way to pay your way on. Here is what we look for, what we would need from you, and what happens if we say no.

If you run a cabin, a campsite, a hut, or something there is no tidy word for, and you think it belongs here — tell us. It costs nothing to be considered, and nothing is the only price we will take for it.

What we look for

The full set is published on About, with the counts behind it. These are the five an owner runs into first.

Somewhere a person would name unprompted

Not adequate, not good value. The test is whether someone who has stayed with you brings you up when a friend asks where to go.

An owner, not a portfolio

One place per operator, and smaller and independent over the big groups. A company running thirty sites is excellent at something this list is not for.

A website of your own

We link people straight to you. Where a platform is the only way to book, we say so on the listing — but a place that exists only as a platform listing is a hard one for us to send anybody to.

Recognition we can cite, if you have any

Awards are linked to the awarding body or not claimed at all. Most listings carry none, and it has never been what decides it.

Room on the list

Twenty is the ceiling for a country and the list is spread across its regions, so a very good place can lose its slot to the one already sitting in that region. That is a held-in-reserve, not a no.

What happens after you send it

We check it ourselves

Against your own site rather than a platform listing. Anything we publish has to trace back to a source, so a claim we cannot stand up simply does not appear.

We ask you for photographs

Your own, in writing, with the date you said yes. The content model refuses a photograph that has no credit and no permission recorded against it, which is why 3 listings show a labelled placeholder rather than somebody else's picture.

We write at least one caveat

Every entry has to carry the thing a reader would want to know before booking — the road you can hear, the track that needs a high car, the two-night minimum. That is the point of the site rather than a lapse in manners, and it is not negotiable. If it would be a problem, this is not the list to be on.

It may take a while, and it may be no

One person reads these. There is no queue position to check and no service level to hold us to.

On money, plainly

There is nothing to buy. No listing fee, no featured slot, no subscription, no commission taken on your bookings. Not one outbound link on this site is paid for, and nobody has ever paid to be on the list.

A paid featured option is on the plan for later — a flat fee for a slot, the way it works elsewhere in this category. If it happens, three things happen with it: it is labelled as advertising wherever it appears, it sits outside the ranked list rather than anywhere inside it, and no editorial entry moves by a single position because of it. UK rules on paid placement require that it be obvious. We would do it anyway, because a list a reader cannot trust is worth nothing to you either.

The same goes for advertising and affiliate links generally: the rules are on About, and this page changes on the day any of it does.

If we leave you off

We publish the rule that did it. Every place we have considered and turned away is named on Not on the list, with the rule beside it and no view of the business attached. If you think a rule has been misapplied to you, or that an entry reads as more than a rule, write to hello@cabinsandcamping.com and it gets corrected or removed. Rules also change — a place cut on one per operator is a candidate again the moment we are choosing between operators rather than within one.

Send it over

This is the same form readers use to suggest somewhere. Say in the last box that it is your place, and mention whether you have photographs you can give us permission to publish — it is the step that most often holds a listing up.

Already on the list?

Everything is re-checked quarterly, but we would much rather hear it from you. A price that has moved, a season that has changed, a caveat that no longer applies, or a photograph you would prefer we used — hello@cabinsandcamping.com, and a human answers.
