Storängens Naturcamping

Ransäter, Värmland

Fifteen hectares of which only six are used, with ninety-nine pitches, eleven cabins and three safari tents.

Why we love it

The numbers make the argument: fifteen hectares of land, six of them used for camping. The rest is left as it is. Ninety-nine pitches with electricity, eleven cabins and three safari tents, run by a family whose stated priority is the nature rather than the facilities.

That is a common claim and an uncommon land-use ratio.

Best for: space, and the reassurance that the space will stay

Worth knowing

  • Hot showers are metered: 5 SEK for four minutes.
  • Bed linen is not provided — bring your own or hire it at reception — and you clean the cabin yourself before check-out or pay to have it done.
  • The site is open from 30 April to 20 September only, and for the four days of the Bälgspel vid landsvägskanten accordion festival at the start of July musicians play in groups on the campsite itself. The operator says outright that some guests find it disturbing.
