A campsite on its own island in the Blekinge archipelago, a bridge away from Karlskrona.
Why we love it
Dragsö is an island in the Blekinge archipelago, connected by a bridge, and the campsite has the whole of it. Karlskrona — a naval town laid out in the seventeenth century and a UNESCO site for it — is a few minutes away.
The Baltic here is warm by Swedish standards and sheltered by several thousand islands, which makes this the gentlest introduction to Swedish archipelago camping.
Best for: an island without a ferry timetable
Worth knowing
- Hot water in the service-block showers runs on a card system: 5 SEK buys three minutes.
- In high and peak season the cabins are booked Saturday to Saturday, apart from the suites, the Örlogsbyn cottages and the rooms.
- The red-zone pitches, the ones right on the water, cannot be booked in advance at all. You take your chance on arrival and go on a queue list if nothing is free.

The campsite is 3 km from the centre of Karlskrona and the operator points to the town's cycle routes as the easy way in and out. In summer the archipelago boats run several trips a day and many of them call at Dragsö's own jetty; a hop-on hop-off ticket covers the islands. The barrier is shut between 23:00 and 06:00, so anyone arriving after 11pm parks on the visitor car park outside. One car per booked unit is allowed inside the barrier, two for the Världsarvsbyn and Örlogsbyn cottages.

- Marinmuseum — The naval museum in Karlskrona, which the operator calls a must on any visit.
- Wämöparken — A park a little outside Karlskrona with a mini-zoo, and a flea market on summer Saturdays.
- Aspö — Reached by archipelago boat or car ferry; good for cycling, with beaches and the 17th-century Drottningskär citadel.
- Cyberzone — Bowling, laser game and an arcade, which the operator puts a stone's throw from Dragsö.
