Why we love it

Ramberg beach is the one that makes people disbelieve the caption: white sand, turquoise water, and mountains behind it, at sixty-eight degrees north. The camp sits directly behind it, and has grown into the social centre of that stretch of Lofoten — surf hire and lessons, a bar on the sand, yoga, and a sauna for when the Arctic Ocean has done its work.

Cabins and rooms as well as pitches. Northern lights from autumn, and no darkness at all through the summer.

Best for: surfing inside the Arctic Circle, which is exactly as daft as it sounds

Worth knowing

  • The camp says so itself: it is a popular spot and with that comes a bit of a crowd, and at peak times you might experience some queues for showers and toilets.
  • No pre-booking for caravans, motorhomes or tents — drop-in only, first come first served, and the camp recommends arriving before 18.00 in high season to be sure of a spot.
  • The five Beach House bedrooms share bathrooms and a kitchen, and no dogs are allowed in the Beach House or the Beach Cabin.
