Why we love it
The gargantas of the Tiétar valley are mountain streams that come off the Gredos ridge in a series of granite pools, and they are among the best freshwater swimming in Spain — cold, clear, and busy only in August. This site sits on twenty thousand square metres alongside the Garganta Arroyo-Remolinos, under oak, poplar, mimosa and ash.
Candeleda is seven kilometres away. Madrid is close enough for a weekend, which explains who you will meet there.
Best for: swimming in granite pools within two hours of Madrid
Worth knowing
- There is no free cancellation — the operator says so in capitals — and 50% of a weekend booking is payable up front, 40% of a longer stay.
- La Cabaña, the two-person cabin, takes no children or babies at all, which the operator puts down to safety. No animals are accepted anywhere on the site.

The operator's own directions: 180 km from Madrid, leaving the A-5 at exit 148 signed Oropesa, Madrigal de la Vera and Candeleda, then 29 km on to Candeleda, where a signposted road climbs to the Santuario de Chilla and the site. 100 km from Ávila on the N-501.
