The Living Room Treehouses

near Machynlleth, Powys, Wales

The original Welsh eco treehouses: six wooden hideaways in a hidden valley on the edge of Eryri (Snowdonia).

Why we love it

The original Welsh eco treehouses: six wooden hideaways in a hidden valley on the edge of Eryri (Snowdonia). Wood-burners, gas hobs, spring water, compost loos, dark skies — and no wifi, on purpose. A long-standing Guardian and Canopy & Stars favourite. Book direct or via Canopy & Stars.

Best for: families who want the full treehouse fantasy

Worth knowing

  • There is no electricity at all — these are off-grid structures high in the trees — and the loo is an ensuite Swedish compost toilet.
  • No dogs, because the treehouses are on a sheep farm, and it is a five to ten minute walk from the car park to your treehouse.
  • Best for children of four and up: younger ones may find the spiral staircases, candles and wobbly bridges tricky. Stays are two nights, arriving Sunday, Wednesday or Friday.
