Why we love it
Potes is the market town in the Liébana valley on the Cantabrian side of the Picos, and it is the sensible base for the eastern massif — the Fuente Dé cable car is up the valley, hauling you eight hundred metres in four minutes.
La Viorna is a short way out of town with the mountains filling the view. Quieter than staying in Potes itself, and close enough to walk in for dinner.
Best for: the Cantabrian side, and the Fuente Dé cable car
