La Pineta

Bari Sardo, Ogliastra, Sardinia

Thirty years in the same family, in the pines between Bari Sardo and the sea in Ogliastra.

Why we love it

Ogliastra is the middle of Sardinia's east coast and the part that mass tourism has mostly missed — the Costa Smeralda is two hours north and another world entirely. La Pineta has been run by the same family for over thirty years, in the pine grove behind the beach at Bari Sardo.

The site describes itself as human-scale and far from mass tourism, which in Sardinian coastal camping is a meaningful claim rather than a slogan.

Best for: the east coast, at the pace it is meant to be taken

Worth knowing

  • From 1 June to 13 September bookings for stays of fewer than seven nights are not accepted.
  • Towels are not provided in the mobile homes, the equipped tent or the rental caravans, and a €150 security deposit is payable on arrival.
  • The beach is a 400-metre walk from the site, and the rental caravans have neither air conditioning nor a private bathroom.

Who runs it

Tiziana and Giuliano

A couple in life and at work. Giuliano was born in Bari Sardo and his family ran the campsite when he was a child; the two of them have run it together for over twenty years and the site has welcomed guests for more than thirty. Tiziana handles reception, the bar, the shop and the restaurant; Giuliano takes maintenance, safety and the technical side. They say they have deliberately avoided the holiday-village model — no trendy entertainment, no crowds.
