Rognstranda Camping

Stathelle, Telemark, Southern Norway

Camping above one of southern Norway's best beaches, on the Rognsfjord.

Why we love it

Southern Norway is where Norwegians themselves go in July, and the reason is beaches like this one — sheltered, sandy and warm enough to swim in without ceremony, which is not something the fjords offer.

Rognstranda sits directly above the sand on the Rognsfjord. It is the least dramatic entry on this list and the easiest holiday on it.

Best for: a family fortnight where nobody has to be persuaded into the water

Worth knowing

  • Showers cost 25,-. You are issued an access card for the service buildings and top it up; what you do not spend is refunded when you leave.
  • Of roughly 230 units the site holds, over a hundred are seasonal pitches taken for the whole year.
  • Open 1 May to 31 August only, and every pitch price rises between 15 June and 15 August.
