Almería, Andalusia
A small site on a steep volcanic coast above its own pebble cove, in the Cabo de Gata natural park.
Cabo de Gata is a volcanic desert that runs straight into the Mediterranean, protected as a natural park, and the least developed stretch of the Andalusian coast by a long way. The site is cut into the slope above a small pebble beach, with glamping units built from natural materials and pitches for vans.
It is also one of the darkest skies in Europe, which is why the observatory is up the road.
Best for: a coast that has not been built on, and stars afterwards
Cala del Cuervo, s/n, 04116 Las Negras, Almería. The operator publishes GPS 36.872515, -2.0077362 and says Almería airport is 51 km away. It also claims a station 1.6 km away; OpenStreetMap has no railway station within 34 km, so no station is published here.
