Camping Lacona Pineta

Lacona, Livorno, Tuscany

Pitches in the pines above Lacona bay on Elba's south coast.

Why we love it

Lacona has the longest sandy beach on Elba and a dune system behind it that is protected — unusual for a Mediterranean island, where the dunes have generally been built on. The campsite is in the pines on the slope above the bay.

Quieter than Capoliveri and better for small children, since the water shelves gently for a long way out.

Best for: families who want sand rather than rock

Worth knowing

  • Cars and motorbikes live in the car park outside and are let into the park only to load and unload, between 8.30am and 1pm and between 3pm and 11pm.
  • Bungalows are not available until 6pm on the day of arrival, and pitches and bungalows alike must be cleared by noon.
  • A swimming cap is compulsory in the pool, and the site closes from late October until late April.
