Mjelva Camping og Hytter

Åndalsnes, Møre og Romsdal, Fjord Norway

Family-run since 1964, three kilometres from Åndalsnes, under the Romsdalen peaks.

Why we love it

Running in the same family since 1964, three kilometres out of Åndalsnes, with twenty cabins and pitches for everything else. The position is the argument: look up from the site and you have Romsdalshorn, the Trolltindene, the Vengetindene, Bispen, Kongen and Dronninga, which is an unreasonable amount of mountain for one view.

Trollstigen is about half an hour away, and the Atlantic Road, Geiranger, Molde and Ålesund are all day trips. This is the cheap way to stay in one of the most photographed valleys in Norway.

Best for: walking in Jotunheimen and Rondane in the same week

Worth knowing

  • Bedding is not provided in the cabins: bring sheets and a duvet cover, or a sleeping bag, or hire a set for 130 kr.
  • The last check-in is 22:00 and the site closes to arriving vehicles at 23:00.
  • Open fires are banned. The barbecue area is charcoal only and you have to bring your own charcoal and firelighters.
