Pure Space Eco Glamping

Loop Head, County Clare, Munster

Owner-run cabins and bell tents in ten acres of native woodland on the Loop Head Peninsula, a quarter of an hour's walk from the sea.

Why we love it

Loop Head is the long finger of Clare that most people drive past on the way to the Cliffs of Moher, which is exactly why it is worth stopping. Pure Space occupies ten acres of native woodland fifteen minutes' walk from the water, and it is run by Trea, who also teaches the yoga.

The range runs from self-catering lodges down through off-grid wooden cabins to furnished bell tents, with a handful of pitches kept back for cyclists and walkers — a small detail that says a good deal about the place. Solar panels, and outdoor showers fed by harvested rainwater.

Best for: a slow week on a peninsula almost nobody stops on

Worth knowing

  • The off-grid cabins run on solar lighting and tea-light lanterns, with only a WC and sink of their own.
  • It is not a general campsite: there is no hook-up for tents, just two campervan bays up to 6.5 m and a few pitches for cyclists and hikers.
  • Dogs are on-lead only and Holly is the one dog-friendly cabin.

The practicalities

Difficult, but possible

About forty-five minutes west of Ennis. From Kilrush take the N67 towards Kilkee, turn left at Lisdeen church with Keane's pub on the right, then some five kilometres of winding road to the crossroads at Querrin School; turn right and Pure Space is about 300 m along on the left.
